WHAT IS REHAB?
Theword ‘rehab’ can conjure up images of expensive drug and alcohol rehabilitation
centers inMalibu or Antigua frequented by Hollywood celebrities, or it can equally
apply to theweekly AAmeeting at the local community center. The only difference is
price, who can afford to attend, and arguably, the completion and success rate.
Over the last few years a new generation of
rehabs have opened that try to bridge the gap
between providing the highest levels of rehab
therapy, facilities and service, whilst being
affordable enough for almost anyone to attend.
DARA (Drug and Alcohol Rehab Asia) Thailand is

DARA Thailand
is located on the tropical island of Koh Chang, about 40 minutes
flight direct from Bangkok. It is a private resort spread over 10 acres of tropical
forest and faces west coast sunset views. It boasts the highest staff ratio of any rehab
in Asia, private bungalow accommodation, Thai massages, executive chef and even
includes earning your open water PADI diving certificate as part of your therapy.
The most important factor of any drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility is the
actual therapy programme, which includes the staff to client ratio, quality and
experience of the therapists, as well as the completion rate – and ultimately the
success rate of clients over the long term.
DARA’s rehabilitation methodology is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
(CBT) and the underlying issues of why you use drugs or alcohol in the first place.
Clients have a busy schedule of individual and group weekly therapy sessions
including one-to-one therapy and relapse prevention sessions. Our CBT
programme will help you change the way you think about yourself, the world and
other people, and will give you the tools to stay sober long after leaving DARA.
Whilst 12-step programs may be of benefit for some people, DARA does not offer
a 12-step programme.

What is beneficial to the success of your rehab programme is the environment.
Being in a safe and relaxing environment, far away from the influences and
stresses of daily life is important for focus, recovery and relaxation. DARA is
located on a tropical island and guests are accommodated in private cabins
spread among the 10 acres of ocean frontage. DARA gives guests an unparalleled
environment in which to focus on recovery, and in their private time, a place that
is a truly inspiring and a beautiful place to be.
But beyond the therapy, location and accommodation that differentiate DARA
from other rehabs are the extra facilities and services that DARA provides that
really makes it stand out, such as regular Thai massages and a 5-star chef
providing an all-inclusive menu of Thai and Western food that would not be out of
place in any high end restaurant.
And, even if you haven’t been to the gym in several years, the physical therapy
trainers will have you back in shape by the end of your stay – with intensive gym
workouts, water aerobic workouts and even Muay Thai (Thai boxing) workouts if
you wish. Stress management, including meditation, is also included in the
treatment programme. Weekly excursions can include island hopping by boat,
temple visits, spa treatments or beach visits – all fully included.
When you arrive in Thailand, your first day will be spent at Bangkok Hospital
(Trat) getting a complete and thorough medical exam, including chest x-rays, full
blood and organ tests, urine analysis and ultrasound to make sure you are healthy
enough to attend rehab. If you require detox or your doctors find that you need
additional medications, that will be handled at the hospital.
DARA Thailand fees for a fully inclusive 28-day stay is $5,995. This includes
private cabin accommodation, all meals, drinks, group and private therapy, physical
therapy, stress management, massage, excursions and wi-fi access. Besides some
spending money for a phone card, personal items and some souvenirs, DARA offers
the most complete and affordable rehabilitation package in the world. In fact, it is
more affordable to fly to Thailand to attend rehab than attend rehab in most
