Adfam
Adfam is the national umbrella organisation
working to improve the quality of life for
families affected by drug and alcohol use.
With 26 years of experience in supporting
families and driving forward good policy and
practice, Adfam is uniquely placed to deliver effective training
specifically designed to meet the needs of those working in family
support, treatment and criminal justice settings. Whilst drawing on
Adfam’s long history in family support, our training is also informed
by the latest policy and good practice developments and is ideal for
new services, as well as offering ongoing professional development
for established providers of family support.
Adfam’s training is relevant for practitioners at all levels of family
support. Training is also available to family members on issues
including conflict, family dynamics and boundary setting.

. Alternatively training can be
commissioned, which is the perfect way of training a group of
staff or family members. Most courses are a full day and are
delivered at the client’s venue of choice by Adfam’s experienced
trainers. Fees are graded according to the client’s funding levels,
which ensures that smaller groups can access our training whilst
allowing costs to be covered.

The Addictions Training Academy was set up in 2009 to
promote evidence based interventions for managing substance
misuse. Addictions services in BSMHFT have developed and
implemented the Birmingham Treatment Effectiveness Initiative
(BTEI) over the past five years. This is an approach that uses
targeted assessment tools and modular interventions to improve
communication between practitioners and service users. The use of
node-link mapping places an emphasis on collaboration between
client and worker, aiming to enhance treatment engagement.
The Academy also offers a consultation and training package in the
BTEI approach that can be tailored to suit individual services.

Alcohol Concern
ALCOHOL CONCERN CONSULTANCY AND TRAINING
Alcohol Concern is the national agency on alcohol misuse
campaigning for effective alcohol policy and improved services for
people whose lives are affected by alcohol-related problems.
Since 2000 Alcohol Concern has delivered a variety of alcohol
training and consultancy services to a range of clients including
PCTs, local authorities and voluntary organisations.
Consultancy services are available to investigate and advise on
measures to tackle alcohol related harm, for example, by supporting
PCTs and local authorities in carrying out alcohol needs assessments,
local alcohol impact studies and developing local alcohol strategies.
Our training courses include:
• Alcohol Identification and Brief Advice (IBA)
• Alcohol and Young People
• Alcohol and the Older Person
• Alcohol and Mental Health - Tackling Dual Diagnosis
• The Family Training Programme
We offer these courses nationally, both as open courses or on an
