Weather the storM
don’t let the wet weather dampen your spirits, as London
is once again lit up by festivities this June. London Pride’s
theme this year is Love (& Marriage), with a nod to how
far we have come in the fight for equality. throughout
June, London will be host to events and exhibitions
exploring gay rights in movies, religion, art and the armed
forces, right up until the parade kicks off at Baker Street on
29 June. Following a route down regent Street and ending
in Whitehall, the streets will be awash with a multitude of
vibrant floats and lively music to keep the crowd moving.
the street party continues with the Summer rites Pride
in the Park 2013, where there will be live music, comedy,
dance acts and more spectacular live entertainment. Not
satisfied? Get yourself down to Glitterous, the (in)famous
Pride a er-party, to be treated to such acts as Superstar dJs
Paul Heron and Brent Nicholls.

Made in the ’80s
Saturday 24 August is the date for your diaries at
Manchester Pride; the parade starts at 1pm and its theme
– Acceptable in the ’80s – recognises the impact that the
decade had on the LGBt community, with Hiv activism,
Section 28, iconic music and quirky fashion. the parade is
the climax of the Big Weekend, from Friday 23 to Monday
26 August, where a crowd of thousands will converge at
Manchester’s Gay village. during the day, world-class
entertainment like headliners the Feeling will ignite the
stage, and as night falls, the indoor Arena will give way to
an exuberant club scene with high-energy dJ sets that will
propel you into the small hours of the morning.
A candlelit vigil on Monday 26 in Sackville Gardens will
give a minute to pause and remember those who we have
lost to Hiv – and appreciate the good feeling and
atmosphere of Pride events all around the country.
