Daily Update
– DAY ONE – Monday 26 April 2010
About the daily update
SPEAKERS FROM THE GLOBAL
FUND
will step into the ‘dialogue space’
at 12.30 today, launching an important
new interactive strand of the conference.
‘The dialogue space does what it says
on the tin,’ explained conference
organiser, Paddy Costall. ‘People come
up to the microphone and make a
presentation. They make it short,
punchy and provocative and it’s an
opportunity for people to put themselves
on the spot and be questioned.’
The idea came about at last year’s
conference during discussions with the
Global Fund, who wanted somewhere to
have an effective exchange of views and a
dialogue between drug users, drug user
advocates, and people with HIV and Aids,
so that recipients of funds could speak
directly with the decision makers who
allocated them.
‘The great thing about it is there’s no
hiding place – not like sitting on a stage
and delivering a presentation, knowing the
agony will be over in 15 minutes,’ added
Mr Costall. ‘It may be that a single issue
will be pursued for the entire period. It’s
also an opportunity to discuss late
breaking issues. It’s a flexible space.’
The dialogue space is in the
Exhibition Area on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday from 12.30 to 17.30
