MIcHAeL And JOe
Something that meant a lot to both of us was a leter
that arrived from Joe’s parents in Australia the week before
the big day. Joe’s parents have needed some tme over the
years to adjust to our relatonship and receiving a leter
welcoming me to the family and wishing us well was
something that really made the day special. Joe’s mum had
writen us a poem, which I read as the opening to my speech
at dinner. The day was dedicated to our parents, who mean a
lot to us both, and although they couldn’t join us on the day
it was amazing to know that we had their love and support.
Our friends being with us and enjoying the day was
really special. With both of us coming from different
countries and making a home in London, we have found
them to be a truly extraordinary group of people. There was
not a moment when people weren’t laughing or didn’t have
a smile on their face. In the days afer, we received so many
messages thanking us for such a wonderful day.

I don't think it could have been any beter. It will, for us both,
be one of the best days and every tme we look through our
photos and remember the tme we had, it brings a smile to
our faces. As a couple it made us realise how much we are
loved by the people in our lives.
Our advice to anyone would be to create a day that
represents you. There is usually a format for a heterosexual
wedding, but we were privileged to be able to show our
commitment to each other and to not have to follow anything
done before – something that we hope will inspire other gay
and lesbian people in years to come. Have fun!
