hen my best friend Tricia came over to England
for a study abroad programme from
Pennsylvania, she met and started da ng a girl.
at this girl’s house she met her housemate,
amanda… and that’s when our story began.
I remember Tricia calling me straightaway and saying ‘I’ve
found the perfect girl for you!’ She told me to set up a profile
on a gay da ng website, and – as I was soon to find out –
convinced amanda to as well. Then on amanda’s 30th
birthday, Tricia casually opened up my profile for her to read.
I received an email from amanda that night, and from
there we started talking. We began e-mailing, then instant
messaging, and soon started talking on the phone. We talked

back and forth from for six months un l June 2006, when I
decided to take some me off work to visit her in England.
It was an amazing week and confirmed what we both
knew – that we wanted to be together. I was moving to
Hawaii a few days later and it was so hard to leave England
as we weren’t sure when we would be able to see each
other again. But we both wanted this to work and were
willing to be apart with the hope that one day we would be
with each other.
Teaching in Hawaii had always been one of my dreams
and even though the distance would be farther, amanda
encouraged me and we both decided if it was meant to be, it
would be.
