SAndrA And AMAndA
We spoke on the phone every weekend for hours, and
were constantly emailing and messaging. The me apart was
difficult, but it gave us an opportunity to really get to know
each other. Amanda flew to Hawaii for a month in April 2007 –
an amazing month for us both, and though it was difficult to
say goodbye, we knew we would be seeing each other again.

I dEcIdEd to MovE to England
at the end of the
Hawaii school year to look for work in this country as a
teacher. We had survived nine months apart so we knew
we would be able to get through a few more. I came over in
August 2007 and started my job as a special needs teacher
the following January.
We both knew we wanted to be together forever.
Moving to England and setting up life here was extremely
difficult, but a decision I would never change. Once I’d
finished jumping through all the official hoops, we knew
we could then focus on getting married. We decided to
give my American family time to save to come over, as well
as time for us to plan exactly what we wanted, so we set
our sights on 2010.
We struggled at first to find a venue that met our needs.
We wanted somewhere that everyone could stay for the
weekend, yet was relaxed and casual. One of my work
colleagues suggested Hargate Hall as he said it was the best
wedding he had ever been to, so we looked into it and fell in
