some readings about love. it was so touching and heartfelt to
have our wedding ceremony be a patchwork of thoughts and
words from so many of our loved ones. We led the way out

Our guests cried like babies throughout the ceremony.
There were two overwhelming sentiments our guests shared
with us afterwards: ‘i don’t cry at weddings, and i was
sobbing!’ and, ‘That was the best ceremony i’ve ever
witnessed.’ i think our guests were so moved by how personal
it was. all the stories from our siblings and friends brought
everyone into our journey up to the present moment, and it
was just overwhelming – in a really great way!

during the reception we really enjoyed creating interactive
experiences for our guests. We had giant sparklers, more
than two feet long, for when it got dark and Shannon our
photographer captured some super-fun pics of our guests
spelling out ‘love’ and ‘mexico’ with them. We had a row of
anniversary mason jars labelled with years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15

Shannon Hughes found himself caught up in
the magic as he photographed the day…
i had never photographed a same-sex wedding
before that day and i remember showing up not
sure what to expect, but i soon became swept
up in the abundance of love. it would really be
hard to describe the feel and energy of that
beautiful ceremony, but the love that Jamie and
erin possess for one another touched everyone
who was there.
there have been times while shooting
weddings that i have had tears well up in my
eyes, but never before had i been wiping tears
from the viewfinder of my camera. i learned a
lot about people and life that day, but mostly i
learned a great deal about love. i found myself
thinking about how sad it is that so many of us
are falsely indoctrinated with who can and
cannot love one another. i will forever be
grateful for being asked to be part of such a
beautiful ceremony.
