SUEDE PERSUASION
No ’70s collection would be complete without suede, and it has been used
widely this season by designers. The difference is, there is no difference –
the styles have not been filtered down, modernised or altered. They have
been recreated just as they were before, just the way we know and like it.
DEREK LAM
went for an array of dyed suedes in pinks, purples and natural
colours on a two-piece mini skirt and jacket, as well as a knee length coat
in pastel patchwork. But Lam’s real showstopper was his green suede
knee-length dress, tailored to the waist and perfectly darted for a dress to
suit every figure.
GUCCI
has done it again with the classic suede fitted jacket, brass buttons
and cuffed sleeves – straight back to its origins.
AQUATIC AESTHETIC
We are going to give the little mermaid a swim for her money as this
season we have seen an aquatic-themed trend which offers billowing
materials in off-white, blue hues and turquoise, printed with sealife
images and adorned with glimmering crustacean-like jewels and
embellishments.
ANTONIO BERARDI
crafted a wonderful piece that is just as good for a
wedding dress (if not better) than your everyday Vera Wang. With pale,
shimmering embellishments on a chiffon, full-sleeved dress and flowing
cape, Berardi has replicated the elegant motion of fins in water and
glimmering jewel-like scales reflecting in the light. It really is a spectacle to
be seen.
VALENTINO
does dresses – fact – and its sea-life dress is sheer and
freefalling with adorable prints of seahorses, tropical fish and mystical
mermaids in sea reeds. It conjures up a wonderful fairytale, dreamy feeling
and is an ideal dress for any special summer occasion.
With such an eclectic choice of themes this summer, your wedding day is
sure to have more wardrobe changes than an evening of
